I translated these a while ago, and originally posted them at
Original Text: here. I guess this blog did a little interview with everyone on the Spanish WC team. How cute. :)
Iker Casillas. 23 questions for the Spanish 23.
1 - First World Cup memory.
Well, Italy '90, truthfully, is the one that I most remember.
2 - Do you know who Naranjito was?
Yes sir, the '82 mascot.
3 - Have you seen Zarra's goal?
Zarra's goal? I have not seen Zarra's goal.
4 - How was the Cardenosa "goal"?
The Cardenosa goal? That was not allowed? What a question to have caught me with, no?
5 - Did you enter(?) Michel's goal against Brasil in Mexico '86?
Yes.
6 - Who threw the punch at Luis Enrique at US '94?
Tassotti.
7 - What was the name of the ref at the Spain - Korea WC game in 2002?
It's slipped my mind, sorry.
8 - If you leave fooball you want to be?
Something in relation to football.
9 - Metrosexual or Ubersexual? [oversexual?]
Sexual.
10 - Clothes brand.
Of the clothes I wear: Lee and Hugo Boss.
11 - Cologne brand.
Well, I only know several: Chanel, not Donna Karah of New York. [could be wrong.]
12 - Athletic brand.
Reebok.
13 - Watch.
I'm not really big on watches.
14 - Prefered car.
I rather like my Audi, right now I have the Q7.
15 - Prefered Playstation game.
Pro Evolution. [a soccer one]
16 - Last book you've read?
I am reading The Da Vinci Code.
17 - Do you feel overwhelmed by the internet or do you stay on top of things?
Before I was overwhelmed more, now I keep more of a balance.
18 - Benji and Oliver or Mark Lenders?
Benji. [er. singers?]
19 - Whopper or Big Mac?
Big Mac.
20 - Coca Cola or Pepsi?
Coca Cola.
21 - Colacao or Nesquick? [spanish chocolate milk mix; american one]
Nesquick.
22 - Hanging out with friends before clubbing [or binge drinking. explanation] or playing ball [as in fooling around]?
Hanging out with friends.
23 - Koala Idiots or Laura's Love? [yeah, uh, wtf. either a bad error by me or Spanish culture is strange.]
I don't get you! Neither of them.
Original Text: here. Not posted because it would be very long. And beware the strange word order of some sentences.
Your team has the chance of winning the four great titles that are in the game this season, the first of them being the Supercopa de España. What are your expectations for this season?
At Real Madrid all the seasons have the same goal: to win all the titles. What that doesn't always happen, but in this Club they only teach you to play to win.
It's been five months since Carlos Queiroz began as the coach, a period that has been harshly
criticized. How do you value his work?
I don't usually value the coaches halfway through the season; well, not even to the end, either,
and less if they are mine. No, no, now in seriousness! I think that not only the coach but also with
all the components of the plan it's necessary to qualify even if the course ends.
How much football does Casillas have left?
I would like to last another fifteen years.Ther goalkeeper has more vitality in sport than any
other player. Besides, the more years in the goal, the more experience. [Santiago] Cañizares is a good
example, I would like to equal his age with wisdom and the form that he has now as well.
What is the principal lesson that you have learned during these five seaons with the first team?
To be a player for Real Madrid on or off the field. If you go to other countries, they know the team's shield.
Would you change something of these five years? Do you regret something?
Nothing, I have learned from all the moments, the good and the bad. I don't regret anything and I am convinced that I have made mistakes on more than one occaison, but I have also learned from them.
You have already won practically all in your, for now, short sporting career. Do you think about
missing something in another area of your life?
I am young, I play because I like it, they become fond of me for it, do you think I can complain? [then there is another sentence that I can't figure out. I think it's about about people being happy with him.]
You have a great connection with the younger fans. What to you think is the meaning of sport, in general, and of football, particularly to their lives?
I tell the kids that praticed the sport; that it sastifed them; that making it to become like any of us, that if he must reach, he'll reach. [that sentence is most likey very wrong.] It's necessary to amuse oneself, to make friends, don't lose time on things that unfortunately are accessible to kids and that don't usually bring good consquences. With sports one has friends, one learns to value others and to respect all the world. It's a good social doctrine.
What place should sport have in children's education?
Well, I don't know exactly... First? No, well one of the first.
New technology opens a new world of possibiltes of spreading your team, and the same for you, but what is your relation with them?
At times we are suprised in the locker room they arrive with an arranger [like the manger?] and show that in the last game we ran so many meters, we sweat(ed) so many drops, we lost I don't know how many kilos, and we jumped I don't know how many meters. Which if we have made this or that, according to the arranger, we have saved I don't know how much oxygen... the science advances and is important, therefore it's necessary to accustom oneself and take advantage of new technology.
When you were small, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you imagine youself sometime managing to triumph in the best team in the world?
Sir(?). And no, of course I couldn't have imaganied it. When I began to play football it was to have fun, not to become the Real Madrid goalie. Luck and work are my best friends. For triumph, there is stuggle and work, after that luck is with you. I know a heap of enough people better than those that are above them that haven't triumphed. Luck hasn't been with them ever.
In the event that you weren't a footballer, what would you do?
I've already said this, sir(?). I love children. I would like to be a teacher.
The ex Atlético de Madrid player, now at Lazio, Demetrio Albertini proposes that after the violence in football stadiums, the players should go on a strike. What is your opinion of these drastic
measures?
I don't know about the strike, perhaps yes, but there already is violence, racism... Football isn't the only thing with violence. Society is violent and many protect themselves in this sport. But between us we must stop with the violence. It's not only in our stadiums, it's in our neighborhoods, in our cities, in our countries, and worldwide. It will be difficult, but we must contine fighting to manage it.
Also, a question. The first interview was done by a blog that gave it to all the players of the WC 06 team, so are there any requests for translating a certain player's? I promise that they'll be better translated (ha!) and they're not very hard, since I think most the questions are the same.
EDIT: I'll do up to ten. So far...
1. Xabi
2. Raul
3. Luis
4. Cesc
5. Nando
6. Villa
7. Ramos

Anyway I don't know about Mark Lenders but IINM 'Oliver y Benji' is a soccer anime. Torres once also mentioned that he liked it when he's a young boy. thought it was adorable.

January 10 2007, 15:27:11 UTC 5 years ago
Yes.
It's not 'did you enter'. It's "Did Michel's goal against Brasil in Mexico '86 enter?". The original text says "entró", which is 3rd person singular in the pretérito indefinido. It would've been 'entro' in 1st person singular presente. ;-)
not Donna Karah of New York. [could be wrong]
My guess is that he means Donna Karan New York. ;-)
18 - Benji and Oliver or Mark Lenders?
Benji. [er. singers?]
These are the names of cartoon footballers. I checked wikipedia, but the only hit I got was an Italian article and my Italian isn't very good.
Thanks for posting these! :D
(didn't check the other text for any possible errors or mistakes, I'm too lazy for that right now. But if you ever need a check, just yell and I'll help :D)
